How to Get Included in Google News

I have been asked countless times how to get included in the Google “One Box”. That’s when there used to be a “one-box”. Now we have Google Universal Search results. They contain listings from Google Products, Google News, Google Images, Videos, etc. Getting included in Google News can drive a ton of traffic. But, Google News isn’t for every website or business strategy. One of the articles written in the August 2008 edition of WebsiteMagazine was called, “Get Your Website Included in Google News”. As I was reading it, I couldn’t help but think the article could also be called “How To Create a News Site”. It is packed with great information. Before you Submit to Google News, or Submit to Yahoo News, here are the main factors in getting accepted. 1) Original content, not just regurgitated news. No related posts. |

Great post! I’ve always just relied on paying people to send out Press Releases for me which gets you into Google news…but it’s costly.

Awesome post! The information about having multiple authors was really useful. We’ll be trying some of these tactics.

Brilliant. Been wondering about this. The 3 digits is a bit of a drag if you’re indexed already though.

Really good tips and straight to the point. An excellent 11 point checklist for anyone looking to get into Google News. Similar to the poster above I’ve always relied on press releases in the past but will certainly try getting into Google News after implementing the above advice.

At PubCon this year there was a session on this, and I am pretty sure they recommended having numbers in the url as well. No one from Google confirmed this, but it seemed to be the concensus of the panel. I guess even a date would work, but they wanted numbers.
