Tracking Phone Orders and Keywords

22nd May 2006

Here are some ideas for tracking and measuring Phone orders being generated by your PPC Search campaigns.

Place a Phone icon and Promo code ( listing ID ) on the webpage. The phone icon is a nice visual and you can place the promo code right next to it. The promo code will identify the search engine and keyword. Each promo code can be dynamically generated. Then, require the call-center to ask for the promo code.

The way to do this is to place all your keywods in a database then assign them an ID, then when the user clicks on the google url, it will attach a string like keyword=12345. Same for Yahoo.

You can even save it in a cookie, so that even if the user closes their browser, it’ll still show it when they come back.

If you have a showroom, your Landing page can encourage prospects to print a discount coupon, which can be redeemed at your showrooms. The promo code will be associated with a Search Engine and a Keyword.

Another way that I have done this in the past - very similar… is to use a phone extension. ie 1-800-call-shim ext 221 the operator would take the extension and record it… then take the call.
